Case Study: Helping employees approach the job market confidently

A global leader in molten metal flow engineering and technology decided to close their Research & Development (R&D) department in the UK and move their equipment overseas. Historically, R&D had always played a major role in maintaining the client’s industry leadership – serving as a critical component and key differentiator to competitors by enabling them to stay one step ahead of other suppliers in their industry. Therefore, they wanted to ensure all impacted employees received the best possible career support available.

To support those R&D employees impacted by this business decision, the client wanted to offer support to each of the individuals and approached Right Management, their exclusive outplacement provider, to propose a programme of support.

 

The solution

Right Management went onsite to meet the manager responsible for this change and provide an initial briefing meeting to everyone. The purpose of this was to demystify outplacement so that it was clear what support was available, to ensure everybody understood how it would benefit them personally.

Following the briefing session, each employee was given the opportunity to have an individual 1:1 diagnostic session to provide insight into what they were looking for in their next roles or the next step in their life.

Subsequently, each individual was then enrolled onto our RightChoice 3-month Outplacement programme and received: 

  • Unlimited 1:1 coaching support – tailored to each individual’s unique goals, employees were able to use this time to talk through any queries and concerns, and build the confidence needed to network and secure interviews for future employment.
  • Access to our online career platform, live events and dedicated job search support – Granting access to a wealth of resources and expertise to support their job search process.


The impact

The support has been extremely well received on all fronts, with an 88% take-up rate. Nearly two thirds of impacted employees secured a new role within 3 months of their support starting, while the remaining individuals – one of whom has only just returned from maternity leave – are continuing with their support.
