The situation
In advance of the UK general election on July 4th 2024, Right Management were asked as part of a competitive tender to provide a programme of support that would help any MPs who lose their seat.
Following a successful tender process, we were appointed to work with up to 250 MPs, providing Outplacement support for over 6 months to help each individual navigate the next steps in their career – whether that be a new role, a non-executive directorship, an interim career or retirement.
Our solution
We conducted initial briefings with the major parties that lost their seats (conservative and SNP), to make sure all MPs understood the support, the external market, and the options available to them.
As we could not contact any of the MPs directly, we created bespoke communication brochures and QR codes that were shared within parliament. MPs could then contact us through a confidential point of contact.
Each individual that sought support was provided with a senior executive level programme to help them achieve a successful career transition.
The impact
- 138 MPs have taken up support to-date
- 60+ have secured a successful outcome in the first 4 months of their support and continue to use onboarding coaching to support their new careers
- A further 15 MPs who weren’t eligible for Outplacement support but who stepped down as a result of the general election, have since self-funded their support with us
